Reconstruction begins
Reconstruction was a time when the north and south recombined to form the new United states. After the war, lincoln pardoned the south and started reconstruction to recreate the United states -
Wade Davis Bill.

10 percent plan
When 10 percent of americans took the oath to be loyal, the states could then rejoin and set up a new government. -
Freedmans Bureau
The freedmans bureau was a set of laws declaring blacks rights. It stated that all blacks who were born in the U.S were now citizens.
Black males were able to vote, and even run for congress. -
Lincols Assassination
Lincoln was assassinated by a man by the name John Wilkes Booth. This southern actor thought that killing lincoln would be a huge success and make him a hero. Instead, he was killed and the south didn't really give him much respect. -
President lincoln pardons the south
Lincoln forgives the south for the dammage and allowed them back into the the union. The radical republicans wanted the southerners to make a pledge to the Union and swear under oath on their lives. -
Black codes are passed.
Black codes were laws made so there was a way to control freed men. Black codes ruined what blacks thought were great rights compared to what they were used to. This made Blacks angry because it kept them from owning or renting land. -
Civil rights act
Allowed slaves to vote and run for political purposes. They could also become citizens. They could vote under one condition. They had to take a literacy test. -
First Reconstrustion act.
This called for the creation of at least 10 southern states to form new government. If they had not ratified the constitution, this would be mandatory. -
Johnsons Impeachment
After Johnson took place in office, he started to break laws and remove people from their permission without asking. He had removed Secretary of War Edwin Stanton without the senates approval and was taken out of office. (impeached) -
Amnesty act
The amnesty act pardoned most of the southerners at this point. Nearly all southerners could vote and hold office again. It restored full rights to mpeople who supported the democratic party. -
Compromise of 1877
This asked all northern states to bring all troops out of the area.
The new government would givemore aid and security to the south. -
Revels becomes minister
Hiram Revels becomes minister. He had come up with the idea to recruit african american soldiers. -
Jim crow laws were passed
These were the laws that made segregation mandatory in the states. This lead to Plessy vs Ferguson. This case then settled al;l of the segregation and stated that it was required. -
Plessy vs Ferguson
This case argued that segregation was a right thing to do. Louisiana was one state who came up with having separate trains and schools for blacks and whites.
