    Civl Rghts Act of 1865
    The Civil Rights Act of 1865 granted full citizenship to the African Americans. It also gave the federal government the power too intervene in state affairs to protect their rights. The act help the protection of their rights.
  • John Wilkes Booth

    John Wilkes Booth
    John Wilkes Boothe shot Lincoln in the head while he was at a play. John Wilkes Booth was only one of the people that was part of shotting Lincoln. After John shot Lincoln, Lincoln died several hours later.
  • Andrew Johnson

    Andrew Johnson
    Andrew Johnson was the vice president and when Lincoln was shot Andrew Johnson Became the president of the United States. Johnson supported the Union during the war but when Lincoln died he showed more intrest in the Confederates. Johnson declared that the 13th Amendment had to be abolished before th south could join the Union again.

    Lincoln was brough Springfield's railroad station. The funeral train then carried him to Chicago. Where they moved his body to a hoarse drawn carriage and then that brought him to the state capitol, where thousands of people walked by and said their final good byes.

    The Black codes were laws that controled freed African Americans. The laws gave them less freedom and it gave the right to the plantation owners to exploit African Americans. It also allowed officials to fine and arrest the African Americans that did not have jobs. With the Black Codes, Arican Americans were not allowed to own land or even rent it. Though the eyes of the north it resembled slavery.
  • Ku Klux Klan

    The Ku Klux Klan or the KKK was a group of people that used fear and violence to deny rights of the freed African Americans men and women. The members wore white sheets or hoods over there heads. They killed and beat many African Americans and there white men on their side. The KKK would also burn schools, homes, and churches.

    Sharecropping
    Sharecropping was another way of slavery in the eyes of some. Sharecropping was just when a African American rented land and some seed and what ever else they need from the land owner. Then they worked the farm and when they harvested the crop they still had to give a percentage of there crop to the farmer they rented it from.Most did not come out with enough to feed themselves or their family.

    Poll Tax was a tax that you had to pay in order to vote. It created problem for many people that did not have money to pay.Many African American could not afford it because they had not earned any money while they were in slavery and had a hard time finding jobs.

    The Literacy test was a test everyone had to take to be able to vote in the elections. They made the test harder for the African Americans so that they would not pass. African Americans could not read very well because they had never been allowed to read or learn to read when in slavery. Most of the time read and explain the Consitution.

    These laws were a way to allow people that didn't pass the Literacy Test to vote. The law stated that if your father or your grandfather had voted before you then you could vote. This was a problem for the African Americans because they were the first ones to be free and their grandfathers had not had the chance to vote. The Grandfather Clause was a way to seperate the African Americans.

    Ulysses S. Grant became th 18th president of the United States Of America. He was the the Civil War hero. Grant won most of the African Americans votes. The election showed that many supported the Republican apprach of the war.

    The 15th Amendment prohibited the state and federal governments from denying any man to vote because of their race,color, or previous history. This help the African Americans socially. It gave them a say it the elections. The 15th Amendment help African American men to vote.

    Hiram Revels
    Hiram Revels was from Mississippi and was elected U.S. senete. Revel beecame the first black senetor in American history. He helped encourage people to run no mater who they were or what race they were. Revels set an example for many Africa Americans.

    lynching was when a mob killed an person illegally. Most of the time it was African Americans that they killed but any white person that protested lynching woulded be linched to.Between the 1880s and the 1920s on average 2 African Americans were killed a week due to lynching.

    The 14th Amendment said that anyone born in the U.S. would be granted full citzenship. The 14th amendment also stated that no one could take a citzen life unless through the process of law. It also stated that any citzen was entitled to equal protection of the laws.

    13th Amendment
    The 13th Amendment stated that anyone of any race or kind should be forced to work with out pay. This was unless they did a crime and working was their time. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery once and for all. The Amendment was the start of a new life for the African Americans.
