Civil rights bill of 1866
Gave citizenship to all people born in the United States no matter what race or gender. Was vetoed by President Jackson but passed. -
Black Codes
Limited the rights of American Americans in order to keep them as a cheap workforce. Included things like yearly labor contracts. -
Reconstruction act
- Laid out the process of rejoining the southern states into the union, this included adding the 14 and 15th amendments

Impeachment of Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson was impeached on 11 counts, most having to do with him firing his secretary of war. -
The KKK
group of essentially political terrorists against the voting, and natural rights of black Americans. Formed in Tennessee, still around today. -
Sharecropping
The union grated black families each 40 acres and even donated some mules in order to help black people get back on track and not be impoverished. -

Three bills passed as criminal acts that were designed to protect the citizenship and voting rights of African Americans. -
Slaughterhouse cases
Ruled that a slaughterhouse monopoly did not violate the 13 and 14th amendment rights of citizens. This set a dangerous president. -
Civil rights act of 1875
Protected the natural rights of African Americans by making it illegal to discriminate based off of race in public places such as transportation and resturants. You have to serve everyone. -
Bargain of 1877
an unofficial deal during the election that took union troops out of the south ending the reconstruction era for good.
