    The Freedmen's Bureau was developed because people were starting to become concerned for the slaves. An organization helped slaves get shelter, water, and food because of how they were getting treated. The organization also offered legal assistance and school to bypass the laws that were given to African-American people.
  • President Lincoln is Assassinated

    President Lincoln is Assassinated
    During this event, President Lincoln was at a Ford Theater in Washington D.C. to attend a play with his wife and guests; however, was then later on shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth and was murdered. After Booth assassinated Lincoln, he then jumped from the box that they were sitting in and fled. Andrew Johnson then took the place of President Lincoln and became the new President.

    The 13th Amendment made slavery illegal in the United States and gave about many sections as to why slavery was illegal. This Amendment helped save many African-Americans.

    The Civil Rights Act mainly contributed to African-Americans because it gave them the rights to sell and buy property, make contracts, interact in business, sue and give evidence in court too. This Act was very important for the equality of African-Americans and even U.S. citizens.

    Ku Klux Klan
    The Ku Klux Klan was a secret society back in the South. The original clan was founded in Pulaski, Tennessee on December 24th, 1865 during the Reconstruction Era following the Civil War. Their original plan of the clan was to oppose the Reconstruction policies of the Radical Republican Congress and to maintain "White Supremacy;" however, they ended up hurting and killing a lot of African-Americans.

    Congress ended up passing the Military Reconstruction Acts because they wanted to divide the South into five military districts, outlining how the new governments would be designed. Despite the fact that; under federal bayonets, African-Americans received the right to vote, hold political offices, and become judges and police chiefs.

    The House of Representatives decided to impeach Andrew Johnson due to high crimes and misdemeanors. The only thing that actually kept Johnson from being removed from office was the fact that he had one vote less than necessary to actually remove him, so he continued on his term of office.

    Grant's presidency was marked by a series of scandals. Numerous amounts of people in the administration were crooks who stole from the government, that's how his presidency was marked by scandals. Grant striven for the passage of the 15th amendment; giving the right to vote for all men regardless of race, color, or whether they were former slaves or not.

    14th Amendment
    The 14th Amendment authorized the federal government to punish states that violated or abridged their citizens' right to vote by minimizing the states' representation in Congress. It upheld the national debt; however, exempted federal and state governments from paying any debts incurred by the former Confederate states.

    15th Amendment
    The 15th Amendment protects the voting rights of all citizens regardless of race or the color of their skin and also protects the voting rights of former slaves. There were some sections from the Constitution regarding how it worked. The reason why there was another Amendment to follow is because after the Civil War, amendments were added to the Constitution in order to free the slaves.

    A good amount of the Southern United States was destroyed during the Civil War. Farms, crops, and plantations were burned down; moreover, many people had Confederate money which was now completely worthless and the local governments were in shambles. The rebuilding of the South after the Civil War is called the reconstruction, which lasted from 1865 to 1877. The purpose of this was to help the south become apart of the union.
