Civil Rights Act of 1866
The Civil Rights Act of 1866 was made to protect ex-slaves from the legislation in the Southern states from Black Codes and the vagrancy Laws. -
The Freedman´s Bureau
The Freedman´s Bureau was like an organization that helped both black and white refugees in the South, they supplied food, clothing, healthcare, and an education. Not only did The Freedman´s Bureau give food and clothing etc. they reunited families that were separated during slavery auction; they would also help laborers negotiate their contracts with white slave owners; lastly, they help represent African-American in court. -
President Lincoln is Assassinated
President Lincoln was attending a play in Ford´s Theatre he was watching it from the Presidential Box with his wife Mary and two other guests, during there was a big joke and at that point, John Wilkes Booth entered the Presidential Box and shot President Lincoln in the back of the head, he was taken to William Petersen´s boarding house right across the street there were several doctors but not any were able to help him. -
The ¨13¨ Amendment
The 13 Amendment abolished slavery, it made slavery illegal in the United States. It states"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." -
Ku Klux Klan (KKK)
The Ku Klux Klan was founded in Pulaski, Tennessee during the Reconstruction Era post Civil War era, their goal is to maintain ¨White Supremacy¨, basically a hate group for the African-American community, which they tormented the African-American community for a long time. -
The Military Reconstruction Acts
The Military Reconstruction act is when the North deiced to South punish them by adding the military and dividing them 5 military districts. -
Andrew Johnson's Impeachment Trial
President Andrew Johnson was accused of "high accused and misdemeanors", under his term his cabinet was dirty and the IRS was taking bribes to not pay tax for booze. -
The Election of Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant's presidency is mixed opinions because he helped fight for civil rights for African Americans and Native Americans, but also he had a lot of scandals during his presidency most of his administration were crooks because they stole from the government which led to the stock market to crash. -
The ¨14¨ Amendment
The 14 Amendment states in the constitution ¨All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.¨ to be simplified if you were born in the United States including slaves you are a United States citzen. -
The "15th" Amendment
The 15th Amendment states in the constitution "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." it is saying that African Americans can vote and protected the African Americans voting rights. -
The Reconstruction Ends
The Reconstruction ended once the United States pulled troops from the South and the state finally took over, after 12 years of reconstruction the country is finally on its feet and running .
