    He was accused of "high crimes and misdemeanors". The reason that Andrew Johnson was impeached was for his removal of Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of War and member of his cabinet, in violation of the law called the Tenure of Office Act. President Andrew Johnson had to answer 12 articles of Impeachment and was acquitted in the Senate by one vote less than the two-thirds necessary to remove him and was allowed to continue his term of office.

    Many of the people in his administration were crooks who stole from the government. In 1873, financial speculation led to a panic and the stock market crashed. Many people lost their jobs during this time. He pushed for the passage of the 15th Amendment, giving the right of all men to vote regardless of race, color, or whether they were former slaves. He also signed a bill that allowed persons of African descent to become U.S. citizens.
