Military Reconstructyion Act

Fourteenth Amendment
this amendement granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the U.S. and declared that no state could deprive any person of life, liberty, or prepperty "with out due process of law." -

declared the right to vote shall not be denied on account of race, color or previous condtion of servitude -
redeeming the south
took place through out all of the 1870s. many southerners wanted to regain control of their state and local governments from republicans. southers terriost groups such as the KKK and the Knights of the White Camellia intimedated African Americans and white voters. so democrats resorted to stuffing ballot boxes, bribing voters and stealing ballot boxes. -

historians are not sure if a deal was actually mad or, if so, what its exact terms were. it reportedly included a promise by Rep. to pull troops out of the south if hayes were elected, and that is what happened within a month of hayes taking office. -
