The creation of the KKK, or Ku Klux Klan, lead to rioting, as the KKK tried to restore democratic power to the south, and keep former slaves powerless. -
Civil Rights Act
Declared all the people born in the U.S, (expect Native Americans) were citizens. -
Reconstruction Acts of 1867
Thaddeus Stevens proposed a plan to Congress that would have taken land from plantation owners and given it to free blacks. It also stated that all citizens were entitled to equal rights regardless of race. -
14th Amendment
All born in the U.S. were granted the same rights! -
Election of Grant!
The election of Grant, led to the strengthening of the republican party! -
15th Amendment
All citizens in th U.S. have the right to vote! Including black people. -
Blacks Respond to Freedom!
Many blacks, after the ratification of the 15th amendment, left plantations in search of family. -
Abloshment of the Freedmen's Bureau
Without the Freedmen Bureau schools could not be set up for blacks! -
Panic of 1873
Banks across the land closed, and the stock market temporarily collapsed. -
Compromise of 1877
Rutherford B. Hayes became president, but in return the republican had to compromise with the democrats on mltiple terms.
