    Dynastic Cycle Begins 2000 BC
    This begining to a class society started the dynastic cycle, which lasted from 2000 BC to 1900 AD. The dynastic cycle is the rise and fall of different dynasties. The first dynasty is the Xia Dynasty, lasting almost 500 years. Once an emporer dies, the next one is chosen from the offspring of the original, and he is chosen by ability.

    Great Wall of China 220 BC

    Great Wall of China 220 BC
    The longest strucutre man has ever built, was finally finished between 200 and 220 BC. Made out of earth, stone and wood, it stands 13,171 miles long. Project was finished by Qin dynasty to protect them from nomads in the north. The wall serves as a barrier.
  • Opium Wars

    Opium Wars
    The Opium war was fought because Britain wanted more trade power in China, but China stood on different grounds. This lead to the British illegaly smuggling Opium into China, which China tried to stop. This lead to the Opium war. The result was China losing and giving Britain more economic privelages, which let other countries wanting the same. The second Opium war happened when Britain wanted more economic rights, which they did get. Opium was legalized in China.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    Boxer Rebellion
    Citizens of China are unhappy about all of the foreigners moving in to the country, so they got together to fight against and execute them. The foriengers built an army to defend themselves from the Boxer Rebellion, and defeated them. This allowed western countries to expand their limits in China.
  • Republic of China

    Republic of China
    After military revolts, the Qing dynasty fell and China offically called the Republic of China. The new government is extremely disorganized and his little authority, so different parties begin to compete for government control.
  • The Last Dynasty

    The Last Dynasty
    AFter a very long line of dynasties, the Qing dynasty, the last dynasty of China, started to lose power when rebellion wars broke out, natural disasters happened, famines occurred, invasions, and economic problems. The world around China was modernizing tremendously, but China didn’t keep up. They dynastic cycle soon felt its end.
  • Japan Invasion

    Japan Invasion
    Japan, as a part of World War II, begins to invade China. After gaining quite some territory, Japan ends up losing the war and all of China that it gained.
  • Chinese Civil War

    Chinese Civil War
    After World War II is over and the Japanese leave, civil war continues on for control for government. Mao appears as communist leader at this point, opposing the nationalists.
  • Communism Prevails

    Communism Prevails
    After two decades of fighting, Mao's communist party finally wins the civil war. China's government is now called the People's Republic of China. The nationalists move to Taiwan to make a government there.
  • Mao's Rule in China

    Mao's Rule in China
    Great Leap Forward - Collective farming and increased industrialization lead to famine and death. Mao's plan was abandoned about two years in.
    Cultural Revolution - Mao wanted people to get fired up about China, so Mao devised a ten year plan to get everyone's cultural, politcal and social spirits fired up.
