    According to Computerhope, Leonard Kleinrock came up with an idea of a large network of communication with his paper titled "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets". (computerhope) During the years 1961 and 1969 there were major advancements in the creation of the internet.

    Such advances included: the development of the "Networking Group" (NWG) which was formed by Elmer Shapiro with the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), those who attended were; Steve Carr, Steve Crocker(in photo), Jeff Rulifson, and Ron Stoughton. During the meeting of the NWG, they discussed issues with computers communicating with each other.(computerhope)
  • Vietnam war

    On June 8, 1969, President Nixon meets with South Vietnam's President Thieu at Midway Island. During thier meeting, President Nixon lets President Theiu know about reducing theU.S. troop level in Vietnam. President Nixon called it "Vietnamization" of the war and a U.S. troop withdrawal of 25,000 men.(historyplace)
  • Public internet and the first equipment

    On July 3, 1969, the University of California (UCLA) made a press annoucement to the public letting them know about the internet.(computerhope) Also, in August 29, 1969, the "IMP" which was network equipment called "IMP" (Interface Message Processor) was sent to UCLA. (computerhope)
  • U.S. troop witdrawal

    On July 8, 1969, the U.S. withdrawals 800 men from the 9th Infantry Division. From July of 1969 through November of 1972, the troops will slowly withdrawl in 14 stages.(historyplace)

    Leonard Kleinrock tried to send the first Internet message from his laboratory at UCLA, after the second piece of network equipment was installed at SRI.(computerhope) Charley S. Kline tried to log into the SRI computer from UCLA by getting the message as "LO", which was an attempt at "LOGIN" but the message was not able to complete because the SRI system crashed. After the issue was resolved, he was able to log into the computer.(computerhope)

    Approx. June 1, 1971, a man by the name of Ray Tomlinson sent the first e-mail message to be the first message to be sent across a network to other users of the same network. (computerhope)

    In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee wrote a system proposal called the World Wide Web. He also wrote the first Web browser, server, and the first specifications for URLs, HTTP, and HTML.(W3C) Aug. 6, 1991, Tim Berners-Lee created and published the first website from a lab in the Swiss Alps.     Approx. Jan. 1 1995, Jeffrey Zeldman has been designing websites and has been one of the most well known web design pioneers since website designing became known. In 1998, Mr. Zeldman founded "A List Apart" which is a site for people to interact with one another and share ideas about web designing. In 1999, he founded "Happy Cog" which is a digital design studio for people designing and making brand ideas.(A List Apart)

    On Sep. 11, 2001, there was a devestating attack on U.S. soil. During that time the nation was shocked and according to 911memorial terrorists from al-Qaeda, hijacked
    four commercial airplanes, two of the planes crashed into the upper floors of the towers of the World Trade Center complex and a third plane into the Pentagon. The towers collapsed and on the fourth plane the passengers fought back after hearing what happened.(National)

    Approx Feb. 1, 2004, a young psychology student at Harvard University launched "The facebook" while it was named that at the time, he named it that because the idea for the name came from the sheets of paper distributed to freshmen, profiling students and staff.(Phillips) It was later renamed "Facebook" in in August 2005 after the web address was bought for $200,000.(Phillips) Facebook is now the most known and used social networking site on the web.
