Battle of Tannenberg
The battle was between Russia and Germany from the 26-30th of August. The battle resulted in the complete destruction of the Russian second army. Germany won the battle. -
First Battle of Marne
The Battle of the Marne was a First World War battle fought from the 7th to the 12th of September 1914. It ended in a result as an Allied victory against the German Army. The goal of the battle was to allow Germany to advance into France and pursuit the Allied armies which followed the Battle of the Frontiers in August and had reached the eastern outskirts of Paris. -
Battle of Verdun
Fought from the 21st of February to the 18th of December. This was the largest and longest war that anyone had seen in World Ward 1. The war was between the French and German armies, 11 months later the French walked away with the victory. -

The German invasion of Belgium was a military campaign which started on 4 August 1914. Before that on 24 July, the government of Belgium had announced that if war came it would maintain its historic country. The Belgian government mobilized its armed forces on the 31st of July and a state of heightened alert was proclaimed in Germany. -
USSR Withdraws
The Russian military had herd of negative outcomes virtually from the beginning of the war according to the BBC. Though they were able to mobilize faster than their enemies had expected they were still not ready. They were outgunned and outclassed by the Germans. A brief rebound in 1916 things managed to get worse for the Russians. -

After World War I ended, Edward Bayon an ex staff sergeant with the Army he got married to a French girl and decided to stay in France when he signed on with the American Graves Registration service. -
Bayon's Charge
In April 1923, Bayon was charged with taking a barge laden with the caskets of 952 American soldiers through the canals of France, Holland and Belgium. Bayon recorded his memory of the event in the one document in his collection. He was not prepared for the reception that the Belgians provided him on his mission. -
