Raven's Relationship with Her Parents (Trust vs. Mistrust)
At ten months old, Raven's mother and father are going through financial problems, which lead to them working multiple jobs to support their family of 5. Raven's siblings and their grandma offer to take care of her while the parents work. Due to their situation, Raven feels more trust towards her siblings and grandma than with her parents. In Erikson's first stage, the crisis is whether an infant is able to trust his/her caregivers and feel safe in this world (trust) or not (mistrust). -
Raven Meets Calista (Identity vs. Role Confusion)
All her life, Raven had always been attracted to boys until she met Calista. They immediately became best friends until Raven confessed her feelings. Although Calista didn't feel the same, she stayed and helped Raven come to terms with her bisexuality, and helping her come out to her family, who ended up being very supportive. In Erikson's fifth stage, the crisis is identity and role confusion, which is whether one will be able to self-identify or be confused with where he/she is at in life. -
Free of Cancer (Intimacy vs. Isolation)
At 26, Raven discovers she's cured after battling cancer for five years. During that time, she was unwilling to let anyone in for the fear of getting attached. However, her closest friends stood by her side, never letting her feel any ounce of loneliness and somewhere along the way, she fell in love with soon-to-be husband Adam. In Erikson's sixth stage, the crisis is the ability to obtain intimate relationships (intimacy) and the feeling of being alone the rest of one's life (isolation).
