Who is Ralph Lane.
Ralph Lane was a professional soldier, served as governor of the first colony attempted by the English in America. Ralph Lane served in the parliament in the 1550's and 1560's. By 1562 Ralph lane was serving in Queen Elizabeth's court marking his first part of his career. Lane participated in a force that suppressed a Scottish rebellion which earned his accolades in his military career. Ralph Lane was very important in the British Military from making plans to seizing enemy ships. -

The land that they attempted to colonize is now called Virginia named after the queen Elizabeth 1. The first colony was a military venture. lanes colony only lasted for 107 days because of their lack of supplies and no one could communicate with the indians so eventually Lane abandoned them. Lane never was involved in another expedition but still provided service to his country.
