  • Founding of "On a Friday"

    Founding of "On a Friday"
    Radiohead was founded back in 1985 in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Though when the band was founded, its initial name was "On A Friday"
    The band consisted of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, and Philip Selway. They began playing gigs around Oxfordshire while attending school.
  • Decision to go to university

    Decision to go to university
    Because of their strong performance of their early demo, On A Friday were offered a record deal by Island Records. The band decided they were not ready yet and wanted to go to university. They still rehearsed and practiced on weekends but did not play a gig for another 4 years.
  • First Gig Played

    First Gig Played
    On A Friday played their first "proper" gig on August 4th, 1986 in Oxford's Jericho Tavern
  • The Regrouping

    The band regrouped in 1991. They started recording demos and playing gigs which attracted the attention of multiple people. Chris Huffed and Bryce Edge attended the concert at the Jericho Tavern and were impressed. They then eventually became On A Friday's managers.
  • The name change

    The name change
    In late 1991, On A Friday signed a six-album recording contract with EMI. They also got inspired to change their official name to the famous Radiohead, inspired by the Talking Heads song, "Radio Head"
  • Period: to

    Creep's Success

    Initially, there chart performances were poor. Radiohead's managers planned to use American Producers and tour in America to increase their popularity. Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade, who had worked with the US bands Pixies and Dinosaur Jr., were enlisted to produce Radiohead's debut album, Pablo Honey, recorded quickly in Oxford in 1992. With the release of their debut single, "Creep", that September, Radiohead began to receive attention. Creep first became a hit in Israel and later in America
  • The Bends

    The Bends
    The Bends "was driven by dense riffs and ethereal atmospheres, with greater use of keyboards". Radiohead was not as famous in the Britpop scene although when songs like "Fake Plastic Trees" , "Just", "High and Dry", and some others became a success, they started gaining more recognition. "The Bends appeared in many publications' lists of the best albums of all time"
  • OK Computer

    OK Computer
    OK computer received widespread praise for its innovative sound and themes of technology and electronic influence. This success earned them the "Best Alternative Album of the Year" in the Grammys and a nomination for "Album of the Year". Paranoid Android, No Surprises and Karma Police were some of their biggest hits. It was noted as one of the greatest albums in recording history.

    Kid A
    The album included my diverse instrumentation. Kid A received lots of support and hate although it won the 2001 Grammy Award for "Best Alternative Album"
  • Amnesiac

    Amnesiac
    Amnesiac was released in May of 2001 and had additional tracks from Kid A. It comprised of hit songs such as Pyramid Song and Knives Out
  • Hail to the Thief

    Hail to the Thief
    Radiohead released their sixth album Hail to The Thief in June 2003. A notable song from this album is 2+2=5 which included a rock style with some electronic elements
  • In Rainbows

    In Rainbows
    Radiohead released their 7th album, In Rainbows, on 10th October 2007. Noteable songs that were a big hit was Weird Fishes and Jigsaw Falling Into Place. It was special due to its different elements of rock, pop and electronic elements included in the album
  • Moon Shaped Pool

    Moon Shaped Pool
    Radiohead released the ninth album, Moon Shaped Pool, in September 2014.
  • The Smile

    The Smile
    Yorke and Jonny Greenwood started a new band called "The Smile"
