Marconi was an Italian inventor, who is deemed to send the first radio signal. The radio signal wasn't music or even voice it was rumored to be morse code or something of that sort. -
Audion Tube
Invented by Lee De Forest, a vacuum tube that amplifies signals. The audion tube was believed to be invented by Reginald Fessenden, but didn't make it into the history books. -
Radio Stations
First radio station was named KDKA and created by Frank Conrad. Music was played by putting a microphone next to a phonograph. The radio station is still around today in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania -
Uncle Charlies
Uncle Charlie radio stations, were radio stations that people ran on their own without any certification. It caused problems because people tried to pick up actual radio stations but Uncle Charlies would interefere. -
First Radio Commercial
WEAF aired a 10 minute radio commercial for $50. The commercial was for an apartment complex. -
FRC
Uncle Charlie radio stations were getting too popular, so the FRC was created. The FRC organizes the licenses of transmitters, and assigns radio frequencies, call letters and power limits. -
30's and 40's
Was known as the "Golden Era" of radio. Since it was during the Great Depression, people would listen to the radio as an escape from their troubles. -
Television
In the late 30s, television was invented. T.V. got popular and people stopped listen to radio as much and radio stations started to lose money. -
Post 1930s
Once television came out, radio shows became a thing of the past. So, radio had to shift their focus to music. Until the radio started to play music, people only heard music in public places. -

Major Edwin Armstrong invented the FM transmitter. FM transmitter was made for stronger signal for music and better sound quality. -
Present day
Today you can listen to music on multiple platforms other than the radio. You have music streaming apps such as Apple Music and Spotify. Radio is still used today, but using streaming apps will have better signal over the radio.
