    Guglielmo Marconi discovered and created the first radio. He was an Italian inventor, and he sent and received the first radio signal in 1895. The invention processlasted for several years.

    The first major use of radio was for navigation on ships! Radio saved thousands of lives, including the survivors on the Titanic. If it hadn't have been for radios, all passengers in the Titanic would have died because of the lack in technology. This event highlighted the value of radio on ocean vessels.

    Radio development began with many scientific discoveries, starting with Marconi. This led to the development of commercials and commercial applications. However, profit was slow in coming.

    During World War l , radio was suspended and was taken over by the government. Multiple advances were developed, and that included direct communication to airplanes. They even developed entertainment for the troops!
  • Radio After World War l

    After the war, there was a concern about broadcasting and radio stations returning to airwaves. But, in 1919 the restrictions ended, and which allowed more discoveries. However, in 1922 amateur radio stations were banned.
  • Radio Signals

    Radio signals were first produced by spark transmitters. Since they were very noisy, scientists worked to produce a "single wave" and also a "continuous wave", which transmitted full audio signals. But within a few years, transmitters died down and became obsolete.

    The mobile telephone service was commercialized in 1947 by AT&T. It started in St Louis, and was widespread. Because only three radio channels were available at the time, only three customers from any given city could make phone calls at a time! Also invented was the cell phone and gave much more capacity during the 1980s to the 2000s.

    The top 40 songs in music became popular, and the target audience was families and pre teens. Music, radio, and also television began to rise in popularity during the early 21st century. FM radios began to take over AM radios, because of the variety in music, such as hip-hop and R&B.

    Radio has grown tremendously since 1894, with sports broadcasting , political broadcasting, as well as well as today's music. The first rap song ever recorded on the radio was Rappers Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.
