Marconi was an italian inventor, he sent and recieved first radio signals in 1895. He probably wasn't the first but he was the best at it. -
Audio Tube
Lee De Forest, created the audion tube that amplified signals. it is widely believed that a Canadian inventor, Reginald Fessenden actually came up for the invention. -
KDKA
The first radio station was in 1920. It was called 8XK then later on renamed KDKA. Frank Conard came up with it. -
Uncle Charlie
This was a term used for personal radio station. Everyone wanted a radio station but not everyone could get one. -
The Dawn of Advertising
Radio's make money by commercials, if they didn't have commercials with the radio they wouldn't be make that much money. In 1922, WEAF aried a 10 minute commercial or toll broadcast, for an apartment complex charging $50. -
FRC
Uncle Charlie was popular in the time. They etablished FRC in 1927. To oraganize the licensing of transmitters which means they had to have a license to have their own radio station. Assigning radio stations frequencies, call letters and power limits. -
Golden Era
The Golden Era occured in the 30s and 40s. It was around the middle of the great deppression- people were huntin' for money. The radio was known as a family media, they played big band music, story hours, comedies, and drama. -
Radio's Preggression
In 1936 major Edwin Armstrong invented the FM transmitter, which made for a stronger signal and higher quality sound. They used AM for talk and FM for music.
