1895

Guglielmo Marconi was an Italian inventor. He was the very first person to send and received radio signal. His company ended isolation ocean travel, meaning that his work helped save people on such things such as the titanic.

1906

Lee Forest created the audion tube.The purpose of this invention was to improve sound. Or in other words, amplifies sound.

radio station

1920

8XK, now makes KADA was the very first radio station that was broadcasted from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. And the station is still around to this day. Frank Conrad was the creator of the station, and the way he played music was by holding a microphone next to a record player.

This was whenever radio starting to make money from companies. Radios would charge companies to play their adds on the radio show. for example, WEAF aired a 10 minute commercial, which was for an apartment complex, charging 50$ to be put on air.

FRC

1927

Companies were getting mad because no one was hearing the adds they were paying to be played, since everyones radio was getting interfered with uncle charlie (peoples at home personal radio stations). So the FRC was created, stating that you had to have a license to have your own station.

Golden era

1930

This was when radio was at its highest peck. The golden era happened during the 1930s and 1940s, the time of the Great Depression.The radio at this time helped a lot of people escape from their real life problems.

Gangbusters

1935

Gangbusters was a popular radio show in the 1930s. The show was a dramatic program that taught you about police history cases. The show lasted a whole 21 years.

Radio decrease

1940

Whenever TV started to become more popular, radio shows were not successful. People didn't like the voices and how they matched up to the person playing the character. The radio stations also began to lose advertisements. The advertisement companies instead of paying for their add to be played on the radio, they paid for them to be put on TV. therefore radio started to decrease.

Music

After the radio shows started failing, the only way to save the stations was to start playing music. Since at this time you could only here music if you listen to it live, on a records or jukeboxes . So now with the addition of playing music, the radios started to come back to ho popular they once were.

1946

Sky King was a very popular radio show in the 1950s. The show was mainly for kids, and was an adventure show. Sky King was a hybrid of a cowboy and an aviation. The show going on from 1946-1954.

Radio progression

1950

Radio was now being played in the afternoon, not just the morning. Talk radio was on AM and music was on FM. Also the government made everyone switch to digital, so that you can pick a the signal. The digital helped create a better and clearer picture.

Spotify

Spotify is one of the radios biggest 'problems'. People have been picking to listen to the app over the radio when they are in the car. The app Spotify was created by a company in stockholm, Sweden by Daniel EK.

Radio today

Although radios still play music 24/7, they now have a lot of completion. The radio now as to compete with things such as Spotify, Apple Music, youtube, Soundcloud, and may others.
