1910s- Call letters came into play. This was a way we could identify radio stations. W would anywhere east of the Mississippi River and K would be anywhere west of the Mississippi River. -

1922- Aired a 10 minute commercial for an apartment complex charging $50 . ( About $5 per minute) -
Tv
1925- The television came out and made a big impact on the radio industry. Radio shows then transferred to Tv and was a difficult transition due to the fact that everyone had a mental picture of what the radio shows looked like and when they physically saw it, it wasn't what they had expected. -

1927- Established the FRC ( Federal communication Commission ).

Golden Era
30s - 40s - Middle of the Great Depression. People were hunting for money and they were able to rely on radio to help them forget the things going on at that time. -
Radio's Demise
1930's - TV appearances began. Radio lost money so they had to jump in. As popularity grew, advertising went to TV. ' Tv will do to Radio what the car did to the horse" -

Edwin Armstrong
1933- Edwin Armstrong invented the FM Transmitter. It made for a stronger signal and higher quality. Later, they moved the talk shows to AM and music on FM -
War of the Worlds
1938- Orson Wells caught the nations attention with his broadcast " War of the Worlds ". He caused a nationwide panic talking about Martians invading earth. -
Radio vs. Media
2000- The radio was doing well and offered something that the Tv didn't...Music. This was going great until digital apps came into play. Pandora, Spotify, Beats Music lowered the percentage of people that listed to the radio. With these apps, you can skip through the advertising and go straight into the music which slowly replaced the radio
