First Radio Signal
Italian inventor Gugliemol Marconi sent and recieved the first radio signal. In Italy, he set up transmitters outside. He was able to transmit radio signals for about 1.5 miles. -
Audian Tube
Lee de Forest ceated the audian tube. The audian tube was a vacuum tube that amplified signals. The audian tube then became one of the most significant electronic innovation of the first half of the twentieth century onnce it's application to radio was perfected. -
First Radio Station
In 1920, America's first radio station 8XK begins. It is still here in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania under the name KDKA. It was established by Frank Conrad. -
First Radio Commercial
In 1922, the radio station WEAF aired the first commericial. It was ten minutes, and was for an apartment complex charging $50. Advertisers began paying radio stations to broadcast their ads. -
FRC
The FRC, short for the Federal Radio Commission, is established in 1927. Uncle Charlie's became too popular, and was interferring with the radio shows that were giving advertisement. The FRC began licensing trasmitters and assigning radio frequencies, call letters and power limits. -
Golden Era
The Golden Era of radio was during the 1930s and 1940s. It was in the middle of the Great Depression, and many people were in need of money. Radio provided an escape and provided a family medium.
