    1st Radio Signal
    Marconi was an Italian inventor who as thought to have received the 1st radio signal. They weren't sure if he had actually discovered it though because word didn't get out before than about anyone else discovering it first. When the 1st signal was sent it wasn't even a voice, it was morse code.

    AM stands for Amplitude Modulation. AM waves are anywhere from 535KHz- 1605KHz. With AM you change the amplitude of the wave.

    Yet another invention was invented without knowing who the REAL creater was, Everyone thought the creater of the idea was a Canadian inventor named , Reginald Fessenden. But the person known for actually making it was Lee De Forest. This invention was a vacuum tube that amplified signals.

    They started using call letters
    They couldn't have the same channels everywhere, broadcasting the same shows and songs, so they made it to where they had Call Letters which was basically a letter showing the location. 'W' was for east of the Mississippi river. 'K' was for West of the Mississippi.

    Having radio made it to wear more people survived when they sank. Because they were able to communicate with land. If they wouldn't of had radio everyone would have died and news wouldn't have came out until weeks later.

    At first called 8XK, then later transformed into KDXK, radio now played music on stations. They had been broadcasting from Pittsburg, Pennslyvania

    WEAF aired the first Ad for 10 minutes on air. They were advertising an apartment complex, they earned $50 for putting that ad on the air.

    They had to start regulating who was airing live on the radio because more people would wanna listen to some dude in his basement rather than listening to the station with commercials, so the ads weren't making them money. They made it to where you had to have a license to own a transmitter to go on air.

    Once TV was invented nobody wanted to listen to what was happening they wanted to see it. People stopped listening to radio as much. So in order for radio to keep making money , they put more music on air.

    Radio was a way to get peoples mind off of things. People would save up to buy a radio, than something that is a necessity.

    Armstrong created the FM transmitter, it gave sounds a higher quality and sent off stronger signals. Yes, thats great, nut a disadvantage to that was people had to buy new radios.

    They started putting talk on AM, and music on FM. Because music had higher pitches and lots of different sounds, where as voices stayed around the same pitch area and made the same sounds.

    Radio isn't getting listened to as much as it use to because people now have better , more efficient apps that they can play whatever music they want on it, skip whatever song they want, and not have to deal with commercials.
