It allowed the invention of the first commercial radios. The spark gap radios had a lot of problems. They were later solved by the invention of something else. -
Audion Tube Invented
In 1906, Lee De Forest invented the audion tube. It was a tube that amplified the signals from the radio. Fessenden is believed to have actually came up with the idea but it wasn't known. -
Radio Stations
About 25 years after the radio was invented they made radio stations. Radio stations play music on them. Frank Conrad made the first station. It still exists in Pennsylvania today. -
Crystal Radio Sets Invented
Crystal radio sets solved the problem of the spark gap. They were the first radio sets used all across America. The last problem was that AM would get blocked by buildings. -

In 1922 the first commercial aired on the radio. It was 10 minutes long. The commercial was for an apartment complex that charged $50. -
FRC
In 1927 the FRC was established. This happened because Uncle Charlie was too popular. You had to have a licensed transmitter, radio station frequencies, call letters, and power limits. -

When radio shows transferred to tv, there was a big problem. If the voice was a man with a squeaky voice, they could be a girl. Putting on a screen changes that. The actor would need to be a girl so the voice wasn't the same. -
Transistor Radio Invented
The transistor radio had specific things better than the crystal. They were much cheaper than the crystal ones. They lasted longer, were smaller, and were cheaper.
