Guglielmo Marconi invents the first radio also called the crystal radio.

Tube Radio

Jan 4, 1911

In 1911, an American inventor named De Forest built an amplifier using the diode valve that was created about 10 years before by Fleming. This was then used to build the tube radio.

Invention of the Transistor Radio

Nov 3, 1952

John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley invent the transistor radio in 1952. The transistor radio is much cheaper, smaller, more efficient, and has a better reception than the crystal radio. The Transistor radio can also be carried in your pocket.

Satellite Radio

Satellite radio was invented by Martine Rothblatt in 1990. Satellite radio is 24 hours a day with no commercials.
