The labor needs in North American Colonies were growing fast so the white European settlers enslaved Africans because it was a much cheaper labor source. After this slavery quickly spread through out America. -

Antislavery Northerners (mostly free black people) helped slaves from southern plantations escape to the north by network of secret routes and safe houses aka The Underground Railroad. -
American Civil War
American Civil War was a civil war northern states loyal to the Union and southern states that had seceded to form the Confederate States of America. It was fought because there was a disagreement over the institution of slavery. -

The Jim Crow laws were segregation laws set in by Southern state legislatures. These laws included things like separate schools, restaurants, barber shops, transportation etc. for white and blacks. -
