Thitteenth Amendment
The 13th Amendment abolished slavery in all parts of the United States. This took place in Washington D.C. with President Johnson as a Leader. -
Plessy vs. Furguson
Homer Plessy was jailed for sitting "White" car of the East Louisiana Railroad in New Orleans Louisiana. Ferguson was jailed and imprisoned, at his trial he argued that the law violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment as well as the Thirtennth Amendment that abolished slavery. This event led to facilities being seperate
but equal for Whites and African Americans. -
Pearsall Plan
The Pearsall Plan integregated the schools of North Carolina. For those parents that didn't want their kids in racially mixed schools the government agreed to pay private school tuitions. -
Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine consisted of nine high school students that wanted their local high school integrated. They finally decided to integrate Little Rock Central High School. -
Geensboro Sit-in
Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr., Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond were freshmen at university that wanted to protest segregation laws that prevented African Americans from entering certain public places. They staged a sit-in at Woolworths so they could sit at the lunch counter. The next day more than twenty African Americans came to Woolworths and sat at the lunch counter.
