This photo was taken by Joe Rosenthal. This island was the site of one of the most famous battles of WWII against Japan.

This photo was taken by Horst Faas and shows a father holding the body of his dead child as South Vietnamese Army Rangers look down. The boy was killed as government forces pursued guerrillas into a village.

Civil Rights- March Against Fear

Aug 1, 1967

In this photo, which was taken in 1966, civil rights activist James Meredith is pulling himself across a highway in Mississippi after being shot while leading the March Against Fear to encourage African Americans to vote. The photographer was Jack Thornell.

Saigon- Bay Lop

This photo was taken in 1968 by photojournalist Eddie Adams and won the Pulitzer in 69. It depicts South Vietnamese General Nguyen Ngoc Loan shooting and killing suspected Viet Cong officer Nguyen Van Lem.

South Vietnam

This photo was taken by Vietnamese- born photographer Nick Ut. This children are running down the road followed by South Vietnamese forces after a South Vietnamese place accidently dropped flaming napalm on its own troops and civilians. The girl in the middle ripped off her burning clothes while running.

Thammasat University-Bangkok

This photo was taken by Neal Ulevich in 1976. It shows a member of a Thai political faction striking at the lifeless body of a hanged student outside Thammasat University. Police stormed the university after students barricaded themselves in the school and demanded expulsion of a former military ruler.
