In Erikson's first stage of life, trust vs mistrust, the crisis is in the unfortunate event of being separated from twin brother, losing birth parents. And despite being different, she was loved, protected, and well cared for.

Princess Leia in the other hand was brought up with love. She knew her worth, and would fight for what she believed in.

In Erikson's sixth stage of intimacy versus isolation, the crisis is that Princess Leila was more than a wife or a mother, she was dedicated to a bigger cause, and that was to the rebellion. The family slowly drifted apart.
