Gaining control of her surroundings and abilities, she wonder if it's okay to be herself as she handles problems on her own without her parents. In Erikson's 2nd stage of autonomy vs. shame and doubt, it focuses on the power of will from a child willing to learn to do things on their own.

     industry vs. inferiority
    June, 11 year old, middle school student, wishes to join the school's ski team. Not being aware of her own ski skills, she doubt herself thinking she will only bring shame to the team. She wonders if she could pass the try outs and please the school team by joining. In Erikson's 4th stage of industry vs. inferiority, deals with the development of self-confidence by pursuing tasks requires an individual to be responsible and doing it right.

    June, now 18 year old, was gifted a car for graduation. Along with the vehicle comes with car insurances that needs to be paid and responsibilities to maintain the car in good shape. Not wanting her parents to pay for insurances, and not having a job is not doing her justice. In Erikson's 5th stage of identity vs. role confusion, the crisis is between the transition from childhood to adulthood.

    June, 30 year old, just got dumped by her boyfriend of 5 years. She was looking forward to marrying him soon but their long term commitment to each other wasn't strong enough. She wants to fit in with her now married friends but the power of rejection from her ex boyfriend is so painful she avoids her friends as much as she can. In Erikson's 6th stage of intimacy vs. isolation argues that it takes sacrifices and compromises to maintain a lifelong relationship with someone.
