Holden's Early Life | Trust vs. Mistrust
Holden (9 months) wakes up hungry and startled from a nap, he begins crying. His mother immediately comes to his room, picks him up from his crib, soothes and feeds him. Erickson's first stage, Trust vs Mistrust, the crisis is hope vs no hope of fear and anxiety; infants depend on their parents/guardians to nurture and care for them. Holden joins the school play | Identity vs Confusion
Holden (17) is in his Junior year and has played basketball for 6 years, he decides to sit out the season so he can act in the school play instead. His parents are confused by his decision, but encourage him and help him practice his lines. Erikson's 5th stage of Identity vs Confusion the crisis is developing a personal identity - building confidence and self-assurance vs the pressure to conform creating confusion and a lack of distinct direction. -
Holden gets married | Intimacy vs Isolation
Holden (28) gets married after being with his partner for 3 years. Holden was single and traveled in his early 20's, he then began dating his partner and proposed after 2 years of dating. Erikson's 6th stage Intimacy vs Isolation - the crisis deciding to enter into a partnership which includes companionship, compromise and commitment vs a lack of relationship and lack of intimacy.
