Explanation of event: Although the US and Soviet Union were allied in World War 2, tensions were evident and grew when the war came to an end. This led to the Cold War in which the US and Soviet Union raced to see who could dominate international affairs and be known as the supreme power. At first the war was about a nuclear arms race, involvements in political and military conflicts in Third World countries, and massive propaganda campaigns, but it later evolved into a massive space race. -
