Peace of Westphalia
Mazarin Louis' advisor successfully negotiated the Peace of Westphalia. This ended the Thirty year war in Germany. This ensured Dutch's independence from Spain. -
Verge of Bankruptcy
In 1661 the treasurary was at the verge of bankruptcy. To try and fix this Louis appointed Nicolaus Foquet. However he was accused of embezzlement and sentenced a reduced life in prison. To fix this he appointed Jean Baptist Colbert as Controller- Chief of finance.He reduced the debt through more efficient taxation. -
Louis XIV Personal Reign
This was the beggining of his personal reign, because his chief minister died. -
Move to the Palace of Versailles
In 1682 the royal court moved to the Palace of Versailles. Louis had converted a hunting lodge built by Louis XIII into the dazzling palace. -
Death of Louis XIV
After 72 years and 110 days King Louis reign ended.
