  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation came along after the royal proclamation closed down colonial westward expansion beyond Appalachia. This law made it so that the only people allowed to travel west or deal with Indians would be licensed traders. It prohibited other citizens and colonial governments from buying land or making any sort of agreements from the natives. This however did not stop the colonists because they ignored the law and still moved west, in hopes of finding land and new trade opportunities.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This act imposed stricter trade controls than before and it updated tax rules. These rules made it harder for colonial traders to make profit on goods. This act was a way for Britian to get money from their people to get them out of their debt. The Americans were not happy with these new rules, so they decided to stop importing goods from British merchants. Other Americans decided to write articles and pamphlets explaining to people how the Parliament was violating the rights of Americans.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    This act was a law passed by Parliament onto the 13 British American colonies. This law banned the colonies from printing new money and from repaying debts with existing paper money. This was an attempt to control the colonial currency system. The colonists were not happy with this attempt, so they started protesting because they were already suffering with trade with Great Britain, and they thought this would just make these worse than they already were at the time.
  • Stamp Act

    This act was by the Parliament of Great Britain, this act forced the colonists to pay tax on all printed materials. Ranging from legal documents to card games. The colonists were obviously not happy with being forced to pay taxes on every piece of paper they need to use so they started protesting, resisting, and boycotting British goods.
  • Quartering Act 1765

    Quartering Act 1765
    This was an amendment to the Mutiny Act passed by Parliament to address where and how British soldiers would and could be housed in the American colonies. This act forced all colonists to allow British soldiers to enter their home and the colonists had to provide food, drink, quarters, fuel, and transportation to the soldiers. This act ended up angering colonists and caused them to not comply because they felt like it was an attempt from the British government to force them on taxes.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    This act was a declaration that stated that the British Parliament taxing was the same in America as it was in Great Britian, but it was passed the same day the Stamp Act was repealed so when this declaration was first passed the colonists had mixed feelings because on one had the Stamp Act was gone and on the other hand the declaration hinted at future legislation and it ended up being identical to the Irish declaratory act, which caused Ireland to submit to the crown.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This act was a series of four acts passed by the British Parliament. The acts were to assert British Parliament authority over the colonies and collect revenue. These acts forced import taxes on British products bought by Americans. Things like lead, paper, glass, and tea. The colonists started boycotting, protesting, and violence moves in order to show their anger. They came together to boycott the British goods to force removal on this Townshend Act.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a deadly altercation between British soldiers and a Boston mob, this event influences more colonies against the mother country. This event also caused colonist to start harassing British officials and vandalize.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    The name "Intolerable Acts" was given by Americans to the five laws passed by Parliament. The purpose of these laws was to punish Boston for their previous actions (The Boston Tea Party) and make an example of Massachusetts to the other surrounding colonies. The colonists were not happy with being punished by more taxes so they united to boycott and so on strike.

    Boston Tea Party-
    The purpose of this event, the Boston Tea Party, was to protest against the British Parliament taxes on tea. The colonists started the tea overboard into the Boston Harbor. After this event, Massachusetts was punished by having several acts imposed on them.
  • Quartering Act 1774

    Quartering Act 1774
    This was one of the four intolerable acts that were passed with the intention to punish the colonists. The purpose of this act was to create better arrangements to British troops stationed in America. This act was to further expand the powers of royal officials on the colonies. The royal officials saw this as a way to house troops without approval from the local officials. This ended up making the colonists feel forced to pay for the stationed soldiers, so they started not complying.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    This act was made to establish a government structure and to preserve French civil laws. This act also guaranteed the right to practice Catholicism, and the act was to have formalization of Indian Lands.
    The colonists were so upset about this because they felt like this further fueled resentment among Calvinist New Englanders.
