Diana and Charles Get married
On Wednesday July 29, 1981, the couple married at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, UK. Peers admired the couple and assumed they were a "fairytale marriage". An estimated 750 million people watched the wedding on TV. Interestingly, Diana and Charles changed the traditional vows, not promising to obey eachother. This was the first time the couple gave the impression to the public hinting that they are not in love. -
Diana admits to cheating on Charles
On November 20th, 1995, Princess Diana admitted to having an affair with her riding instructor on live television. A year earlier, Charles and Diana verbally announced their split to the public, although they were still married. As she announced her affair, the news did not rattle the public as much as it did the monarchy. Previously, Charles had also come clean about cheating on Diana in an interview. Diana's secret caused "The monarchy to plunge into the greatest crisis since the Abdication." -
Charles and Diana Divorce
By August of 1996, Charles and Diana have officially divorced. Diana got a $30-million settlement, with shared custody of the two children. After the divorce, Diana still held the title of "princess", although she lost her legacy as "Her Royal Highness." After years of a reported unhappy marriage, the divorce rattled the family and peers, but did not surprise them. Diana has even admit her depression and self-harming habits originating from her toxic and unhealthy marriage with Charles. -
Princess Diana's Death
On August 31, 1997, Diana died in result of brutal injuries caused from a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris, France. Her rumored boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and Henri Paul were pronounced dead immediately. Trevor Rees-Jones was the only person to survive. It is documented that the car crash was from the harassment of paparazzi, although many accused the driver of driving under the influence. The investigation closed with the idea that the paparazzi did not cause this tragedy. -
Diana's Death speculated - Note found
According to Paul Burrell (Diana's butler and friend), a heart-felt 4 page letter was written to him 10 months after her divorce to Charles. The letter states, "My husband is planning an 'accident' in my car. Brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Tiggy." Although the note can't be proven to be written by Diana, it raised eyebrows because of the harsh accusations. Knowing the marriage was toxic and abusive, the note was believed by many.
