Attempted Assassanation
Ronald Reagan was only 69 days into his first term. Ronald Reagan, his press secretary James Brady, Washington police officer Thomas Delahanty, and Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy got shot outside the Washington Hilton Hotel by John Hickley Jr. Reagan was rushed to the George Washington University Hospital and underwent surgery. He recovered and was released on April 11. He became the first President to be shot and survive. -
Air Traffic Controllers Strike
Air Traffic Controllers striked witch violated a federal law which said government unions can't strike. Reagan said that if the workers striking didn't show up to work within 48 hours, they would be fired. On August 5, 1981 Reagan fired 11,345 air traffic controllers who disobeyed his order. -

In Reagan's terms the unemployment rate went from 7.5% to 5.4%. The GDP growth went from an average 7.9% to a high 12.2%. -
