Bleeding Kansas was when Kansas became battleground between the extension of slavery and the end of it. The Northerners wanted the land to be anti slavery cause Kansas had similar climate and rich soil to Missouri. This caused tension because antislavery settlers were attacked by border ruffians, which resulted in $2 million dollars of property damage and 200 people dead. -

In 1857 Dred Scott an Enslaved man decided to sue to end his slavery. A man named Chief Justice Roger B Taney ruled against Scott cause he thought that African Americans don't deserve to be citizens so they can't sue. John Brown's Raid was when brown took direct action against slavery. he planned to seize the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. This caused tension because after he seized the arsenal ended in him getting sentenced to death. -

The election of 1860 was the turning point for the south. The Southerners were worried that the northerners would try to arm the enslaved people and encourage them to rebel. The election caused tension because once Lincoln was elected there was no choice but to secede. -
