Whiskey Rebellion
When the government began to tax corn, the farmers producing the vegetable got very angry. When they began to start a rebellion against taxing the corn, word got around that George Washington and his troops were on their way to stop them. The farmers then retreated. this showed that the president would react quickly and effectively to big problems. -
Election of George Washington
Election of George Washington-4 Feb 1789 George Washington was chosen to be president without any delay. He was so loved by the population, there was no competition. His leadership powers and ability to bring people together were ways he was a good president. He dealt with the Whiskey rebellion and set precedents for all other presidents. He also chose to stay away from foreign alliances. -

Bill of Rights added to Constitution-15 Dec 1791- In order to go in favor of the federalist who dis proved the Articles of Confederation but wanted the Bill of rights in their Constitution. When they where added Washington didn't like it one bit. -
Federalist party
Beginning of Federalist Party- 5 Dec 1792- Alexander Hamilton the fire of the federalist party wanting to be the exact opposite of Jefferson. Created his own party since Jefferson wanted the democrats to be dominant. Hamiltion couldnt let that happen. Thats how the federalist came about . -
Election of John Adams
Election of John Adams-March 4, 1797 John Adams won against Jefferson, a reluctant candidate, to become the 2nd president. He was a federalist and Madison tried everything he could to get Jefferson to win. Adams won both southern and northern votes, while Jefferson got no votes in Northern states. -
XYZ affair
XYZ affair-1 Apr 1798 France tried to send three animus men to talk to John adams three consultants. France wanted the U.S. on their side but adams refused to let the new nation join in a war that they had no concern being in. France did not take his response politely. -
Alien act
Alien Act-25 June 1798 Was passed along with the sedition acts. Created while under the threat of war with france. Stated that foreigners must live in the U.S. for 14 years to become a U.S. citizen. was repealed. -
Sedition act
Sedition Act-14 Jul 1798 passed to keep aliens (foreigners) from entering the US as traitors. They passed this law when things were tense with france. Stated that aliens had to live in the U.S. for 14 years. These laws were repealed because of their violation of the first amendment. -

John Marshall
John Marshall appointed- 27 Jan 1801 Appointed on John Adam’s last day of presidency. Jefferson told Madison not to deliver the papers. Marshall became angry and took it to court. This is significant because it created the Judicial Review. Marshall ended up serving for 34 years. -
Marbury v. Madison
Marbury v. Madison-24 Feb 1803 When John Adams was days from being former president he made John Marbury a supreme court Justice Jefferson the new president didnt like that. So he told James Madison not to sign the papers.They went to court and the Judicial review ruled in favor of madison. -
Lousiana purchase
Louisiana Purchase-1 Dec 1803-When Thomas Jefferson needed the New Orleans port in Louisiana which was currently ruled by France. Napoleon Bonaparte who was currently fighting a war needed more money than what jefferson was offering so he decided to offer more land.After the transaction was complete this was known as the Louisiana purchase. Jefferson buying land for 3 cents an acre.

Lewis and Clark
Lewis and Clark expedition-14 may 1804-After the purchasing the Louisiana territory Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore the territory. As they where send off on their way they came across an indian girl named sacajewah. They took her to lead the way on their great trip to the east coast.

Embargo act
Embargo Act- Dec. 21, 1807 This act was passed by congress in reaction to the British orders in council restricting neutral shipping. -
Non-intercourse Act
Non-Intercourse Act-March 1, 1809 This act lifted all embargos on American shipping except for those headed to British or FRench ports and replaced the Embargo Act of 1807. This contributed to the war of 1812 -
Election of James Madison
Election of James Madison- Dec. 7, 1809 Following the precedent of serving only two terms by George Washington, Jefferson stepped down and endorsed his friend, James Madison, to be the next president of the United States. The 57 year old Madison, with Jefferson’s vice president, George Clinton, won the election of 1809. -
War of 1812-11 Sept. 1812-24 Dec. 1814
The war of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain. Although the peace treaty was signed in Europe, communication was very slow. -

Election of James Monroe-4 Dec, 1817 Monroes won his first year as president against Rufus King 183 electoral votes to 34. During his presidency spain succeeded Florida to the U.S. for only $5 million. He is also known for the Monroe Doctrine, which forced Europe to stay away from struggling governments.

McCulloh v. Maryland
McCulloch v. Maryland- 6 March 1819 The Second Bank of the United States was established. McCulloch, the cashier of the Baltimore branch of the bank, issued bank notes without complying with the Maryland law. Maryland sued McCulloch for failing to pay the taxes due. -

Monroe Doctrine-2 december 1823 Debray- James Monroe has always ruled with an Iron Fist and doesnt let any thing slide past him. When he got the U.S. out of debt he began to write doctrines this one particularly was for the debt and how to keep it down if to not have any at all.

gibbons v. ogdens
Gibbons v. Ogden- March 2, 1824 Ogden was given a special license by the state of New York to regulate steam boat operations New York water. Gibbons claimed he had the right to operate on the route pursuant to a 1793 act of congress regulating coastal commerce. Chief justice John Marshall ruled in favor of Gibbons stating that New York’s special license violated the federal licensing act of 1793.
