Proclomation of Neutrality
At the time when George Washington was president, in 1793. the proclamation of neutrality was created. during this time both France and Great Britain for aiding neither one of them. as a result of this the Britain's forced American sailors to join the British navy. -
Alien and sedation act
During the time that this act started John Adams Was president 178his act allowed the president to deport people from other countries if he felt they were a threat to the country. He could also fine people from the US if they criticized the government. In return many states created laws against this. -
War with Tripoli
Around this time it was Thomas Jefferson that was the president of the United States. What happened was Tripoli wanted money from the United States for safe passage through their water. US refused as Tripoli raised the prices. Tripoli declared war, the navy fought many battles. A peace treaty was signed in 1805. as a result of the war the US navy was increased dramaticly. -
Louisiana Purchase
Again for this act it was Thomas Jefferson that was president of the time. Thomas Jefferson bought around twice the amount of the United States. The territory belonged to France and it was called the Louisiana Purchase. As a result of this act they doubled the land space of the United States. -
War of 1812
When the war of 1812 started it was James Madison was the president. The United States was at war with Great Britain and so US tried to take over Canada and failed. GB came to Washington DC and burned government buildings. A peace treaty was signed in 1814. The United States became more independent from Europe as a result. -
Monroe Doctrine
Europe wanted to stamp out all of the independent colonies that tried to settle in Europe. Monroe said he would use force if it is needed. As a result it showed Europe that America would stand up for themselves. -
Tariff of Abominations
When the Tariff of Abominations happened John Adams II. Taxes made foreign goods more expensive and harder to get. The purpose of this was to make sure that northern states' factories from more competition, because of this the south payed more for manufactured things. Also the south lost money on the raw material. -
The Trail of Tears
when the trail of tears happened it was Andrew Jackson as the president. What happened was people wanted to take over the native Americans' land, (which was against a treaty that was set in place before Andrew Jackson's presidency. Even with this Andrew Jackson still did nothing while they were being forced off their land. As a result of this land takeover, many native Americans died and the us made enemies with them.
