George Bush Inaguration

- Four protesters against the new President were arrested and people were throwing tennis balls and eggs on the limousine.

- Four coordinated terrorist attacks by Al Quada on the U.S
- Killed 2996 people, injured 6000.
- four airplanes were hijacked by Al quada
- Crashed into the twintowers in New York, Pentagon, last plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvia since the passengers were able to overcome the hijackers

- Right after the incident Bush held a speech to the Nation
- Described his intended actions to the attack
- Many acts were established, examples are "Homeland Security Act" and USA PATRIOT act"
- Many relief funds were set up to help the victims in best way possible.

- 2001, Bush demanded Al Quada to hand over Osama Bin Laden (leader)
- US Navy found and killed Bin laden in May 2011.
- 20 000 civilians were killed and over ten of thousands were killed in the war.

No Child Left Behind Act
- Required states to develop assessments in basic skills
- States must take a standardized test for all students
- If the results are bad, schools must take actions to improve
- Act requires all state to only hire high qualified teachers.
- Also requires to let military recruiters have students info

US congress authorizes the declaration of war with Iraq
Iraq resolution was passed by the congress in October 2002.
The resolution contains many factors that justifies using military force against Iraq.
It authorized the president of the United States to fight anti-US terrorism.
The resolution supported the diplomatic efforts by George W. Bush. -
Space shuttle Columbia self destructs
- Was the first space-rated orbiter in NASA's Space shuttle fleet.
- It completed 27 missions before destruction.
- Launched for the first time in 1981, April 12.
- During its 28th mission, the space shuttle disintergrated when it was coming back in the atmosphere. All seven crew members died.

- War effort was joined by more than 30 countries
- Said that the Iraw regime possessed mass murder weapons
- later criticized since they never found these weapons..
- The invasion started Mars 20th and ended May 1st.

Operation Red Dawn
- Operation that led to capture Saddam Hussein, former Iraq President.
- Named after the movie "Red Dawn" 1984.
- Hussein "dissappeared" after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He became the number one target according to the American Military.
- Saddam Hussein was executed on 30 December 2006 after being convicted of crimes against humanity.

9/11 Comission Report
This was the official report of events that lead up to the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.
It interwied over 1200 people and reviewed over 2,5 million pages of documents. The chairman of the report was Thomas Kean. -

- At least 1245 people died and property damaged was estimated to 108 billion dollar.

- President Bush and many other Gov. officials were criticized for their actions during the hurricane.

- Nominated by George W. Bush after the death of William Rehnquist.
- Described as having a conservative judicial philosophy.
- Went to Harvard College and Harvard Law school.

- Foud guilty of crimes against humanity
- Also convicted for the murders of 148 Shi'as in 1982.
- Sentenced to death by hanging
- 30 december 2006 he was executed
- Critism says that American officials had a big influence on the court.

Democratic Party takes control of both houses
- Election resulted in big victory for the Democratic Party, which gave them control over House of representatives and the Senate.
- It also gave the democrats a majority win of governorships and state legislature from the Republican party.
- This was a big milestone for the Democrats.

- Was the second President to die during George W. Bush Precidency.
- 38th president of the United States.
- Died at the age of 93 years and 165 days
- Funeral started Dec 30 2006- Jan 2 2007.

New troops in Iraq
The senate majority leader and the House speak tells Bush that they believe sending new troops will be a mistake.
George Bush does not listen and oficially announces troop surge. "I've committed more than 20,000 additional American troops to Iraq."
His goal is to create a united, democratic and federal Iraq.
The troops are there to keep everyone safe basically. -

- Obama is elected as the 44th president of the US, Bush bids farewell.
- Bush now lives in Texas
- Bush has been highly criticized after his re election for how he handled Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq war.
