Indian Removal Act
In 1830, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act because they needed the land, so they moved the Indians west to reservations. -
Worcester vs. Georgia
In 1832, in the court case Worcester vs. Georgia, the Supreme Court ruled that Georgia can't remove the Indians because they were a free, independent, and sovereign counrty, but Jackson ignored the Supreme Court and removed the Indians anyway. -
Nullification Crisis
In 1833, South Carolina confronted the Federal Government and nullified a tariff because they thought it was unconstitutional. -
War Against 2nd National Bank
In 1833, Jackson went to war against the 2nd National bank of the U.S. because Jackson thought that the bank limited western growth which is where he was from, and he also thought that the bank had too much power and was unconstitutional. -
Trail of Tears
In 1838, as part of Jackson's Indian Removal Act, the Indians were forced by the U.S. Government to move to reservations. The Cherokee's called this the Trail of Tears because they had to give up their land.
