Fertilization
his is the process when a woman's egg is fertilized by a man's sperm. The male and female gamates join to make a new single cell or a baby. Germinal Stage
The first and shortest stage, where the zygote begins to divide and grow in complexity during the first two weeks following conception. The fertlizied egg or blastocyst travels toward the uterus where it impants on the uterus wall. When fully developed the placenta serves as the nourshiment and oxygen to from mother to child. Embryonic Stage
The period of from two-eight weeks following fertilization. At the beginning of the stage the child has three layers, the outer layer is the ectoderm, which will form the skin, hair, teeth, sense organs, and the brain and spinal cord. Next is the endoderm, the inner layer that makes the digestive system, liver, pancreas, and respiratory system. Fetal Stage
Starts at about eight weeks after conception and continues until birth. Increases rapid change and growth, The fetus makes it self known by 4 months, and the mother is showing and the fetus is moving along with the brain rapidly growing. During this 8-24 weeks the increasing differentaion of horomones of male or female is known. Fetal differences are due to the genetic characterisitcs inherited at fertilization.

Ambivalent Attachment Pattern
10-15% of infants fall into this category. This when children display a combination of positive and negative reactions to their mothers; they show great distress when the mother leves but upon her return they may seek close contact but also hit and kick her.
