Staling was part of Bolshevik Revolution and he quickly rose through ranks of the communist party. He transformed USSR into industrial superpower and eliminated anyone who may have been disloyal . Stalin sent millions to concentration camps called “gulangs”. -
Rise of Hitler
After dominating German Reichstag Hitler was elected chancellor of Germany in 1933. He encouraged extreme nationalism (fascism) in his speeches and gave Germans someone to blame. He also told Germans the Treaty of Versailles was unfair and that they had to exterminate the Jewish race. -
Italy Takes Land
Italy conquers Ethiopia. Ethiopians look to League of Nations for help, but nations were too distracted by Great Depression. Spark that encourged fascist leaders to keep cconquering lands. -
Denunciation of Treaty of Versailles by Hitler
Hitler publically denounces Versailles and begins to re-arm Germany. Wanted to take over more land and built power to keep his belief that Germans belonged to a superior “Aryan” race of blonde hair blue-eyed people. -
Rome-Berlin Axis
Germany and Italy form military alliance due to common interests. They both wanted to dominate Europe, establish large empires, and they wanted to destruct Soviet Union and Stalin. -
Occupation of Rhineland
Due to appeasement, German military occupied the Rhineland from Belgium. It was Hitler’s “dream” to unite all Germans speaking peoples in Europe in one country. -
Annexation of Austria
Hitler proceeded to take over Austria to continue his "dream" of making more living space for his Germans. -
Munich Pact
Hitler "appeased" with the Sudetenland and control over most of the Czech economy. In exchange, Hitler said he’d stop taking over land. Chamberlain stated at this time that "we have achieved peace in our time”.
