French and Indian War
Also called the Seven Years War, was between the North American colonies and the French. Each side of the war was supported by numerous Native American tribes who hoped to get something in return from the Colonists and the French. The war ended in 1763. -
Stamp Act
A tax that was imposed by the British on various documents, papers, and playing cards to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the Seven Years' War. -
Boston Massacre
A tragedy in which 7 British soldiers were confronted by 300-400 hundred colonists who were throwing various items. A British soldier fired which led the others to fire as well. 5 colonists were killed and 6 others were injured. -
Boston Tea Party
A form of rebellion against taxes on tea in which 60 colonists, dressed as Mohawk Indians, threw 342 chests into the Boston Harbor. -
First Continental Congress
A meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies. The purpose of the Congress was to declare that the colonists should have the same rights as the Englishmen. This congress set the terms for the boycott against the British. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were four laws passed by the British in retaliation against the Boston Tea Party that angered the British. The laws were passed for the colony of Massachusettes Bay. -
Lexington and Concord
The first major battle of the Revolutionary War. The colonists were victorious which brought support for the colonial militia.
