The Missouri compromise was the compromise that if any other places wanted to become a state and were above the line they would be free. If states became a state below the line they became a slave state. -

Scott was a slave that moved to a free state, but still worked for his owner. An antislavery lawyer fought and said since he was in a free state he should be free. -
John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry
Brown encourage the slaves to revolt and didn't want slave uprising, but was later found to be a murderer. -
South Carolina secedes
South Carolina became the first state every to secedes (to break free from slavery) -
Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln got elected president in 1860 because the northern people outvoted the southern people, but there were 10 states that he was not on the ballot for.
