The not so Cold War
The tension between the United States and The Soviet Union caused the cold war and the forever hatred of communism. Many americans thought that communism would destroy the United States, so we took action in stopping the Soviet Union from the spread of it around the Nation. The Red Scare was a time where thousands of people lost their jobs. -
Baby Boom
The booming economy, the booming suburbs, and most of the so called baby boom. This began in 1946 when a record number of babies ( 3.4 Million ) were born into the United States. -
Working men and women
During this time people held white-collar jobs rather than blue-collar. Farming productions were also decreasing drastically for smaller farms because the big farms had over production and ran most farms out of business. -
Moving to the Suburbs
As soon as WWII ended Levittowns were developed in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and would soon begin the suburban lifestyle. Buying these houses were cheaper than renting apartments. -
Natives in trouble
White Americans looked for jobs as soon as the war was over and wouldn't be able to get them because of the cheap working African Americans, Hispanics, and others. That also had a spark for working rights for everyone including women. -
Women
Women in the early years of the Post War were playing a big role in the society. They helped with labor unions and started making a living for themselves. People weren't very fond and would protest against this. -
The movement that wasn't very Civil
During the Civil Rights movement americans spoke out against inequality and with the African Americans they were also fighting segregation and what they believed in. In 1954 Brown Vs Board of education spoke out to show that separating black and white school houses was “Inherently Unequal”. -
Rosa takes a stand by sitting
Rosa Parks sat in a white man's seat on a bus and had controversy over it. She sparked a 13 month boycott over segregation on buses. A well known group called freedom riders were then born. -
Cars and Highways
In 1956 the Federal Aid Highway act was passed in the United States and said that the US provided 25 billion dollars to build an interstate highway system more than 40,000 miles long. -
Entertainment Explosion
During the 60's almost every family owned a radio, television, or any type of electronic. This type of enterainment made life more exciting and helped get people out of drepression.
