    Caryl Churchhill
    Caryl Churchhill is a playwright that has a many of pieces under her belt. Including, "Top Girls, Cloud Nine, Serious Money, A Number, Far Away, each a landmark in the history of our theatre culture" (Angelis). Her plays uses cross-gender casting to explore the way social expectations impact gender roles. Her way with her plays made her an important figure in the postmodern movement.
  • Robert Wilson

    Robert Wilson
    Robert Wilson is a director with one of his first postmodern pieces coming out in 1976 with the theatre piece called Einstein on a Beach. He then came out with many others such as, CIVIL warS, Time Rocker and many other theatre pieces (Brockett et al. 259). Wilson pieces were a little different then the others. Many of his works had a lot of visual scenes instead of verbal scenes. These scenes were "enhanced by music and sound" (Brockett et al. 259).
  • American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.)

    American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.)
    The American Repertory Theater was founded in 1980. The theater is "at Harvard University is a leading force in the American theater, producing groundbreaking work that is driven by risk-taking and passionate inquiry" ("About Us"). This theater has held a many of postmodern theatre pieces including CIVIL warS by Robert Wilson, Samuel Becketts's Endgame, and many more theatre pieces.
  • Les Miserabels

    Les Miserabels
    Les Miserabels is a musical adaption of Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, published in 1862. "Les Miserabels" explores themes of justice and democracy, and how it can often times be extremely unfair. Convict Jean Valjean seeks redemption after spending nineteen years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his starving family. The musical ends joyfully, and the hope for a better world is expressed.

    The Comedy of Errors
    Around the 1590s, Shakespeare wrote a play called The Comedy of Errors. Then in 1987, their was a brother group called the Flying Karamazov Brothers, that "not only played the key roles but also incorporated juggling and acrobatics into Shakespeare's play" (Brockett et al. 256).

    In-Yer-Face Theatre
    In-Yer-Face Theatre opens up in the 1994 in Great Britain (REB). In-Yer-Face theatre is described "as the work of young playwrights who break with conventional theatrical codes to confront the vulgar and the shocking" (Sierz). Having no limits they break the boxes of many people's ideas of theatre. Sarah Kane and Mark Ravenhill are two very popular playwrights associated with In-Yer-Face Theatre, plus many more playwrights.

    The production bobrauschenbergamerica by Charles Mee in 2001. It "contains long monologues, non sequitur dances, intimate scenes, an assassination, and countless chicken jokes" (Brockett et al. 258). This play was like nothing anyone at the time has every really seen before.

    Suzan Lori Parks
    Suzan-Lori Parks was an "American playwright who was the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama" ("Suzan-Lori Parks"). She earned this award from her role in the drama Topdog/Underdog. She has also played in a many of other postmodernism art pieces.
  • Wicked

    Wicked
    The musical "Wicked" was first viewd in October of 2003 and became a huge success. Produced by Marc Platt, the play was based off the novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" (Internet Broadway Database) it is also from the musical movie The Wizard of Oz. The musical is very successful even being on the list of the top ten musicals on Broadway.

    Quiara Alegria Hudes wrote the book "In The Heights" which made its appearance in 2007 (Brockett et al. 266).The music for "In The Heights" was composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda."The score features hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and soul music" (Brockett et. al 266).The musical follows the struggling working class in Washington Heights in New York and the dreams that want to achieve.
