Creation of Israel
At the end of WWII the UN took control of the situation of making the Jewish side of Palestine its own state.Many European countries supported this act because of their sorrow for the Jews,as it was just the end of the Holocaust. On the other hand all Islamic countries voted against this. European countries out ruled the Islamic and Israel became the new Jewish state. -
Berlin Airlift
The Soviet Union wanted to keep Germany divided so there would be no whole German country. So the Soviets held West Berlin as hostage and cut off their traffic and water. The Allies didn't like this so to help out Germany they flew in supplies for 11 months every 3 minutes . This results the Soviets lifting the blockade in 1949. -
Arab-Israeli Conflicts 1956
When Egypt seized control of the Suez Canal in 1956 the Egyptian President at the time sent his troops to secure the canal. This action was made in anger from the loss of the financial support from US and Britain. Furious, Britain makes allies with Israel and takes back he Suez Canal. But the world community doesn't like this and forces Israel and Britain to leave Egypt also leaving Egypt in control on the canal. -
Launch of Sputnik
When the U.S. was the first to create a nuclear weapon the Soviets created their first shortly after. So when the race to space was the next big competition between the Soviets and the U.S. the Soviets had to come out on top. Which they did, with Sputnik,by using and intercontinental ballistic missile. The U.S. didn't like this and responded by pouring money into their science education program and launched their satellite 1 year later. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
The US didnt like Cuba turning toward the Soviets for aid when the US pt an embargo on Cuba. So the CIA trained anti Castro Cuban exiles to invade Cuba.Their goal was to overthrow the Cuban goverment but this doesnt happen becuase of the necessary support that didnt arrive. This failed act convinces the Soviets that the US won't resist their expansion to Latin America. -
Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1967
Building tension between Israel and Arab left both countries on edge. Arab was ready for war with allies and weapons. With that they kept moving closer and closer to Israel. Israel thinking Arab was going to attack them air bombed Arabs allies and also attacked by ground. This way of attacking led to Israel defeating Arab in 6 days . -
Assasination of Egyptian President Sadat
Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) didn't like Sadat's idea to seperate peace between Palestine and Israel. He refused to talk over his decision with PLO which led to Egyptian military men getting upset and killing him. -
Tiananmen Square Protest
Students didn't agree with the Versailles Treaty and wanted a political reform so they wanted to meet with their leader ,Li Peng. Li Peng not wanting to meet with the students resulted in students protesting. Later military soldiers started to kill unarmed citizens for blocking the way to the Square which started the Tiananmen Square Massacre. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
When East Germany takes advantage of vacationing privileges it closes its borders and protests erupt. This act results in a new leader of East Germany. He attempts to restore his country stability by allowing people to leave but this results in the fall of the Communist Party and Berlin Wall. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
With 100 plus ethnic groups in the Soviet Union and some craving freedom, Leaders of the Communist Party can't help but fear a reform. Their fears eventually become reality and 15 republics declared independence for the Commonwealth of Independent States. This now marks the end of the Soviet Union.
