  • India becomes Independent

    India becomes Independent
    Before this, India had mostly been ruled by the British. However, most people felt that was wrong, and a campaign lead by Mohandas Gandhi shared that they deserved to be independent. But first problems such as military issues and millions moving houses becsuse British didn't want the expense of colonies had to be resolved. In the end, India was granted independence and follwing that, the UN arranged a caese-fire with India and Pakistan.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Soviet Union formed a blockade cutting off all traffic and water to Berlin, in hope of Allies giving them control of Berlin or to bring all of Germany back together again. Americans and Britains immedietely respond by flying in supplies for 11 months, a plane landing every 3 minutes. Eventually, an unsuccessful Soviet Union lifts the blockade.
  • Creation of the State of Israel

    Creation of the State of Israel
    The Jews have long been wanting to be an independent state, and after asking the UN to help, it finally does. The UN recommends diving Palestine, and creates independent Israel. Though it got attacked frequently, and had a hostile greeting from many countries, it seemed to be harmless and the Isrealies were satisfied.

    This alliance was formed because of fear of the Soviet Union and it's recent growth and aggression. It was formed from 12 nations, including Canada and the United States. Later, West Germany joins this alliance and causes the creation of the Warsaw Pact formed by the Soviet Union and East Europe.

    Arab-Israeli War
    The cause of this war was Egypt seized the Suez Canal, and nationalizes it. During/ after the "war" the Egyptians lose it, and Israel seizes the Gaza strip. The egytians then claim the West Bank and Jordan.
  • Launch of Sputnik

    The Soviets launched Sputnik, by unsing am intercontinental ballistic missile. Sputnik is the very first unmanned satellite that went into space. The United States respond by pouring monet into the science education and ended up launching a satellite a year later.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    In October 1962, a U.S. spy plane found that the Soviets had been building missile sites in Cuba, about 90 miles off the coast of Florida. Knowing that the Soviets are their enemy, the U.S. saw it as a threat &demanded that the Soviet Union removed all missiles, forming a blockade to show they were not messing around. After the being on the verge of a nuclear war, the Soviets agree to ship back their missiles only if the United States promises not to invade.

    In 1967, the Arab and its allies confronted Israel, but Israel had already launched a pre-emptive strike. The outcome is Israel gains Jerusalem, West Bank, Golden Heights, and more.
  • SALT Talks

    SALT Talks
    Nixon, in 1972, becomes the first president to visit Communist China, and he also visits the Soviet Union. He makes a treaty with the Soviets, the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, limiting the number of ICBMs a country could have. This causes Americans to be a lot more confident in their peace-seeking president.
  • Tiananmen Square

    Tiananmen Square
    In 1989 there had been a number of protests in this particular location, all for different reasons. The most popular reason was prootesting the Versailles Treaty, demanding political reform, and not wanting some officials to pass on a certain petition. One day, Chinese troops gathered in this place and started viciously shooting down protesters. This resulted in many deaths and many arrests.
