Although, in reaction to its independence, six Islamic States (Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudia Arabia, Syna) invaded Israel pushing for formation of a Palestinian state; also known as the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization).

    The formation on the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is a defensive alliance formed due to fears of soviet aggression joined by twelve nations. NATO's essential purpose is to safeguard the freedom and security of its members through political and military means.

    Launched by the soviets, Sputnik was the first unmanned satellite into space that used an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This launch was the spark to the United States placing money toward the science education.

    The Bay of Pigs began due to the CIA training the anti-castro Cuban exiles to invade Cuba, wanting to overthrow the government. After the United States convinces the soviets they wouldn't resist expansion into Latin America, the invaders were easily defeated.

    The salt talks (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks) were negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union who were aimed at curtailing manufacture of strategic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. It was first signed by Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev and the United States President Richard Nixon.

    Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini began running his Islamic state by demanding the United States force the Shah to force tria due to hating the United States for supporting the Shah. As a result, he took sixty American hostages for four-hundred and fourty-four days.

    Assasination of Egyption President Sadat
    Unfortunately, Sadat's popularity abroad was matched by a new animosity felt toward him in Egypt and around the Arab world. Opposition to the treaty, a declining Egyptian economy and Sadat's quashing of the resulting dissent led to general upheaval. On October 6, 1981, Armed Forces Day, Anwar el-Sadat was assassinated by Muslim extremists during a military parade commemorating the Yom Kippur War in Cairo, Egypt.
