Adolf Hitler sends German military into the demilitarized Rhineland, west of Germany, breaking the Treaty of Versailles and the Lorcano Pact. -

German troops stormed into Austria and seized control of the country. Hitler ran a rigged referendum to confirm control of Austria. -
The Munich Conference
Adolf Hitler and representatives from the UK, France and Italy, held a conference to discuss whether or not Hitler would be allowed to take an area of Czechslovakia and make it a part of Germany because it contained German speaking inhabitants. -
The invasion of Poland
1.5million German troops invade Poland on the land, Luftwaffe bomb Polish airfields and the German warships and U-boats attack the Polish navy. Hitler claims it was a defensive action but needless to say, Germany had taken over Poland. -
Australia declares war on Germany
Australia along with the rest of the allies, delcare war on Germany and enter the war. -
Allied Declaration of War
Great Britain, France, Australia and New Zealand all declared war on Germany after they declined to withdraw their troops from Poland. -
Japan bombs Darwin
46 allied ships were stationed in the harbour at Darwin and roughly 30 aircraft at the RAAF base on the day Darwin was bombed for the first time by Japanese aircraft. -
The Battle of Milne Bay
The Japanese navy landed at Milne bay in Paupa New Guinea and attempted to seize control of it, however were intercepted by Australian troops. The Australians held them off until their withdrawal the following week. -
Japan withdraw from Papua New Guinea
The Australian military completely stops the advancement of Japanese troops in Papua New Guinea and forces them to formally withdraw from the island. -
Battle of Gona
Australian troops liberate the village of Gona from the grasp of Japanese troops, taking back lost territory.
