  • Contested Presidency

    The US Supreme Court ruled that the presidency would go to George Bush after a very close run with Al Gore and a recount of the Florida votes- thus making a shift in the white house from democrats to the republican party for the next 8 years under George W. Bush's two terms.
  • World Trade Center Bombing

    Members of Al-Qaeda take charge of several planes with plans to crash them into important American landmarks. The most notable were the world trade centers. Many people died and this brought many Americans together with two goals: support each other and get justice.
  • Patriot Act

    The USA Patriot Act was called in length as the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001. This was a direct result of the terrorist attacks on American in September 2011. This helped tighten security where terrorists might take advantage.
  • American Sends Troops

    Under the presidency of George W. Bush, United States troops move into Afganistan to overthrow Saddam Hussein and begin a democracy for the people.
  • The End of Saddam Hussein's Rule

    George W. Bush recieves confirmation that Saddam Hussein has been defeated and declares "one victory in a war on terror that began on Sept. 11th, 2001, and still goes on."
  • Saddam Hussein Captured

    United States troops finally found and arrested Saddam Hussein after nearly an eight month escape and hiding attempt to avoid capture.
  • Iraq Begins Again

    At this time, American troops return power to the Iraq people as new leaders were elected to govern the country.
  • Barrack Obama Takes Office

    After a two term presidency, republican George W. Bush hands over the white house to democrat Barrack Obama. He immediately begins efforts to end the war in Afganistan/Iraq and bring soldiers home.
  • American Troops Begin Returning Home

    Under the order of President Obama, US troops being coming home to tackle more "pressing matters" as the president declares the job in Afganistan is finished.
  • Afganistan/Iraq War Continues

    Special reports leaked led Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta to ask that United States troops continue to stay in the area to train securtiy forces. President Obama declares that all military will be home by the end of the year.
  • The War is Over!

    The United States declares an end to the war in Iraq during a ceremony in Baghdad.
